Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is the first national park in Nepal. The National Park of Chitwan was First established in 1973 and was regarded as a World Heritage site in 1984. The Chitwan National Park covers a total land area of 953.63km square (367.81 sq miles).

History of Chitwan

Chitwan in the 1950s used to be the hunting ground for higher classes. The journey from Kathmandu to Chitwan used to be weeks of walking and the road was inaccessible at that time. Inside the national park camping used to be set up for hunting grounds and hunters stays there for weeks to months hunting wildlife in Chitwan. Preys are Tiger, Rhinoceros, wild cock, leopards, and sloth bears.

In 1950, Chitwan’s forest and grassland fields extended over 2,600 km2  and were home to more than 1000 rhinos.

People started migrating from Hilly areas to Chitwan in search of fertile land. The area then became the hub for wildlife poaching. Around 1957, rules were set up by the government to conserve Rhinoceros and their habitat. In 1959 naturalists Edward Pritchard Gee took a survey of the Chitwan and recommended the creation of a protected area north of the Rapti River and a wildlife sanctuary to the south of the river Rapti for a trial period of ten years.

Chitwan’s Climate

Chitwan has high humidity throughout the year with a subtropical monsoon-influenced climate. It is in the Central Climatic zone of the Himalayas with the monsoon starting in mid-July ends in Late September. Winter is a colder and low visible type of climate. Summer is hotter with a temperature climbing to the maximum of 45 degrees Celcius.

Fauna

Chitwan has more than 700 species of wildlife and yet until now, it has not been completely surveyed the butterfly, moth, and insect species. Rock Python and King Cobra with 17 or more other species of Snakes, Lizards, and tortoise species are found in the Chitwan National Park. Chitwan has two 2 river systems Narayani and Rapti Rivers systems where a recorded number of 113 species of fish and mugger crocodiles are found.

Gharial Crocodiles occur in the Narayani River. Chitwan is also home to more than 543 species of birds. These variations of species of Birds and animals make Chitwan a more beautiful and much amazing place to visit once in every person’s lifetime

At early in the Morning you will depart from Kathmandu towards chitwan on a bus driving 170km around 5-6 hours time. After you reach Chitwan you will be picked up from the Chitwan bus park. And then will drop you off to the Hotel.
